#walkwiththegaisers

… That’s how many days in a row that I had walked at least 20 minutes.

… That’s how many days in a row that I had walked at least 20 minutes.

[We’ve since started a group on Facebook, I’ve passed the 1,000 mark, and we have folks in the group hitting 100!!}

Almost 3 years ago my husband read an article in @runnersworldmag about a man who had a years-long running streak. Every single day.

That inspired him (John Gaiser) to begin a walking streak. Not about distance, speed or intensity ... the only requirements were that he move for 20 minutes minimum, & if he skipped a day, his streak started over. He made the rules & stuck to them, & I jumped in 6 months later.

Have there been days (or nights) that it was the LAST thing that I wanted to do? Yes. ABSOLUTELY!!! But I showed up for myself & the commitment that I made for myself.

That does something to your brain & heart, y’all. I’m not even sure how to explain it, but it becomes a source that you can draw on.

Also, I’m not a neuroscientist, but when we travel by foot (especially without headphones on) I believe that it helps do an important “reset” of sorts in our bodies. We were not designed to travel at high rates of speed without physical movement, with car windows closed blocking wind & sound. I’m not saying that is bad for us, I’m just saying that I have noticed that walking daily is good for us in a way that brings us back to our original function.

SO, consider starting a streak & #walkwiththegaisers !!!!!! Set your own rules, make them right for you & then GO do it!!
